Nearly 200 marketers from brands, media and the non-profit sector attended Ypulse Youth Marketing Mashup East, held on the campus of Boston University to focus on connecting with older teens, college students and young adults. Keynotes speakers included Spencer Baim, the founder of Virtue Worldwide; Ron Faris, who leads brand development and partnerships with Virgin Mobile; Daniel Hart, the general manager at MTV Digital; and Heidi Dangelmaier of 3iying. Brand marketers in the audience included those from AOL, Ben & Jerry’s, Clinique, Hasbro, Ian’s Natural Foods, LifeStyles, Maybelline, MTV Networks, Ocean Spray, Reebok, Timberland and American Forces Network.

Over 400 people attended the 2008 Ypulse National Mashup. The conference was buzzing with marketers and media pros – talking about everything from the latest emerging teen technologies and youth research to activism and the youth vote and from the youth mobile space to manga, casual games and virtual worlds. Youth-savvy keynoters included Antti Öhrling, a co-founder of Blyk; Damon Whiteside, a senior leader of marketing for Walt Disney Records; Carl Brown of MTV Street Team ’08 with Ian Rowe, who directs strategic partnerships for MTV; and youth culture expert Michael Franzini.

Ypulse College Mashup was attended by more than 200 media and marketing professionals focused on understanding how to reach college-aged youth. Highlights included presentations by Stephen Friedman, the general manager of mtvU, Ricky Van Veen, editor-in-chief and the founder of College Humor.com and Mike Marriner of Roadtrip Nation; an evening of video and discussion with Jeff Milstein, producer of “Generation Next;” and a keynote conversation with Jean Twenge, author of Generation Me.

Ypulse Tween Mashup was held at the Javits Center in cooperation with the huge consumer electronics show, DigitalLife. Attended by more than 150 media and marketing professionals, the conference helped them to understand how to reach tweens in a multi-platform world. Featured speakers included Kyra Reppen, the senior leader of Neopets, Renee Hobbs of Temple University’s Media Education Lab and Razor & Tie’s Edith Bellinghausen, and panelists included top people from Weekly Reader, the LEGO Group, Pokemon, Procter & Gamble, Cartoon Doll Emporium, Whyville, Stardoll, to name just a few.
July 16-17, 2007 | San Francisco, CA
The first Ypulse National Mashup was held in San Francisco. Nearly 400 marketers, media folks, non-profits and youth technology platform providers gathered for a day-and-a-half of learning, networking and lively discussions. Pre-conference events included “Cracking The Code,” led by Gary Rudman of GTR Consulting, and the “Music Mashup,” led by the head of programming at Yahoo! Music. The main conference featured panels covering everything from the “totally wired” life of today’s teens and convergence culture to “totally wired” marketing and traditional media, to the mobile space, social networking, video, virtual worlds and youth activism; a keynote address by the CEO of Jones Soda; and a live performance by Secondhand Serenade.
